MMHLA is thrilled to announce that Founder Jamie Zahlaway Belsito is taking on a new role as the organization’s first full-time Policy Director. Jamie is a subject matter expert in maternal mental health policies at the state and federal level. A Boston native, Jamie is a Commissioner on the (MA) Ellen Story Special Commission on Postpartum Depression and the former Advocacy Chair for the National Coalition for Maternal Mental Health. Jamie led a grassroots movement engaging mothers and families across the United States to help pass the Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadows Act in 2016, the first-ever federal legislation addressing maternal mental health

Jamie says, “I founded MMHLA in 2018 so that maternal mental health policy would be a constant focus in the development and maintenance of our nation’s healthcare policy. MMHLA is here to promote the mental health of childbearing women in the United States by advocating for universal education, screening, referral, and treatment of postpartum depression and related maternal mental health (MMH) conditions. As the MMHLA Policy Director, I look forward to working with our federal leaders by focusing on positive policy outcomes on these important issues.”
