The President’s proposed budget for FY22 includes additional funding for maternal mental health; this is the first step in the process to increase federal funding for programs.  The budget calls for the following funding for the Health Services and Resource Administration:

  • $5 million for grants to states to expand healthcare providers capacity to screen, assess, treat, and refer pregnant and postpartum women for maternal depression.
  • $1 million to continue and increase support for a maternal mental health hotline, staffed by qualified counselors 24 hours a day.
