Major Laura Manzo

Active Duty Nurse Scientist and Critical Care Registered Nurse, United States Army

  • Major Laura Manzo is an Active Duty Nurse Scientist and Critical Care Registered Nurse in the United States Army, currently stationed at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC.

    MAJ Manzo received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Hawaii Pacific University in 2009, her Master of Science in nursing and Master’s in Business Administration (healthcare management track) from the University of Phoenix in 2012 and her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Yale University in 2025.

    MAJ Manzo has served as a staff nurse in various critical care settings, as well as a Nurse Manager (NICU), Group Practice Manager, Company Commander, and Brigade Nurse Counselor. She deployed to Herat, Afghanistan in support of OEF in 2012. 

    Laura’s dissertation research investigated associations between mental health conditions and adverse pregnancy outcomes among active duty servicewomen, with a focus on racially disparate outcomes. She is author to 10 peer-reviewed publications.

    Laura’s current work is focused on cardiomyopathies during pregnancy among active duty servicewomen, and perinatal mental health among servicemembers and military spouses.

Adrienne Griffen, MPP

Executive Director, Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance (MMHLA)

  • Adrienne is an advocate and subject-matter expert in maternal mental health.

    Prior to joining MMHLA, Adrienne founded Postpartum Support Virginia and served as executive director for 10 years, establishing a statewide network of peer-led support groups, creating educational programs for mental health providers and maternal-child healthcare professionals, and helping pass legislation requiring information about postpartum depression and anxiety be provided to new mothers.

    Adrienne graduated from the United States Naval Academy and has a master’s in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
